¡BASTA!
This movement adopted the name “!BASTA!” a word used historically as a rallying cry for revolutionary changes in governance. The term "¡BASTA!" gained prominence during the Mexican Revolution of the early 1900s when Mexico was under the control of dictator Porfirio Diaz. His regime, known as "The Porfiriato," was repudiated by the peasants who began shouting "¡BASTA!” “¡BASTA!” “¡BASTA!” meaning they had had enough of The Porfiriato. In much the same way, we have had enough of what is going on in America today, and it is threatening to destroy the way of life we have enjoyed since the founding of the country.
We came together on April 27, 2021, and started "¡BASTA!" Our mission is to help under served communities and increase voter participation in minority communities—especially Hispanics. There are 28 million of us, and less than half of them vote. We want to change that.
Our vision is to help empower the community by showing them how the city works and how they can utilize local government resources. And a top priority is getting them to vote.
We take a community driven approach to reach the people. Our focus starts with k-12 education, sporting and cultural events. Mentoring, economic issues and civic advocacy.
Over the years, we have accomplished many important milestones, including sponsoring Folklorico events, soccer, Food Banks, Food pantry, poetry readings, a parade, Christmas and Thanksgiving parties, and town halls.
