This movement adopted the name “!BASTA!” a word used historically as a rallying cry for revolutionary changes in governance. The term "¡BASTA!" gained prominence during the Mexican Revolution of the early 1900s when Mexico was under the control of dictator Porfirio Diaz. His regime, known as "The Porfiriato," was repudiated by the peasants who began shouting "¡BASTA!” “¡BASTA!” “¡BASTA!” meaning they had had enough of The Porfiriato. In much the same way, we have had enough of what is going on in America today, and it is threatening to destroy the way of life we have enjoyed since the founding of the country.
Founded on April 27, 2021, in Southern California, inspired by the powerful historical cry of "¡BASTA!" from the Mexican Revolution. Just as the people of that time rose up against oppressive governance, we came together to address the challenges threatening our communities today. With a focus on increasing voter participation and empowering underserved minorities, especially within Hispanic communities, we are driven by the desire to create lasting change.
We are group of people that wants to help and we come from different backgrounds. United by a common goal, we work tirelessly to empower underserved communities and increase voter participation.
We are proud to collaborate with a network of organizations, community leaders, and politicians who share our vision of empowering underserved communities and increasing voter participation. Our partners include local advocacy groups, nonprofit organizations, civic engagement initiatives, and other like-minded institutions committed to advocacy, equality, and community empowerment. Together, we amplify our impact and work toward a brighter, more inclusive future.
We are a group of passionate, diverse Americans from across Southern California, united by our love for our country and commitment to making a difference. Our dedicated staff and volunteers come from various backgrounds, bringing a wide range of skills and experiences to the iBASTA! movement. Whether organizing voter drives or offering mental health services, our team’s shared passion fuels the impact we make every day.
Our vision is to empower the community by educating individuals on how the city operates and how they can access and utilize local government resources. A top priority for iBASTA! is increasing voter participation, ensuring that every voice is heard and every vote counts, and underserved communities thrive through active civic participation and equal representation.
We take a community-driven approach to reach and empower the people we serve. Our focus begins with K-12 education, engaging with youth through schools, sporting events, and cultural celebrations to foster early civic awareness. We believe that by starting young, we can build a foundation for lifelong engagement in local and national issues.
Over the years, iBASTA! has reached many important milestones that reflect our commitment to community empowerment and engagement. We’ve proudly sponsored a variety of events and initiatives, including vibrant Folklorico performances and soccer tournaments that bring people together in celebration of culture and sportsmanship. In addressing the needs of underserved communities, we’ve supported Food Banks and Food Pantries to ensure that no family goes hungry.
We believe that true empowerment comes from not just knowledge, but action. We are committed to equipping underserved communities with the tools and resources they need to actively participate in the democratic process. This includes organizing voter registration drives, educating the public on how local government functions, and providing access to critical services like mental health support. By showing individuals how to leverage city and government resources, we help them become advocates for change in their own lives and communities. We ensure that people are empowered to make their voices heard and their actions felt.
